چکیده

In recent years several approaches have been proposed for global optimization in matched-eld inversion. Understanding the mechanics of these optimization methods is important in order to construct fast inversion schemes suitable for underwater propagation problems. It is the purpose of this paper to investigate the comparative performances of two global optimization techniques, genetic algorithms and simulated annealing, in underwater inversion problems. Our interest lies in accurate and simultaneously computationally eecient inversion for both environmental and geometrical parameters. The methods are evaluated in terms of their ability to obtain the global minimum, the speed of approaching that, and the variation in the inversion results.

Non-linear stochastic inversion of regional Bouguer anomalies by means of Particle Swarm Optimization: Application to the Zagros Mountains

Estimating the lateral depth variations of the Earth’s crust from gravity data is a non-linear ill-posed problem. The ill-posedness of the problem is due to the presence of noise in the data, and also the non-uniqueness of the problem. Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) is a stochastic population-based optimizer, originally inspired by the social behavior of fish schools and bird flocks. PSO is ...

Phenomenological and Global Optimization Inversion

This paper discusses geoacoustic inversion results based on benchmark range-dependent data using SAGA, a global inversion package, and using phenomenological inversions. In phenomenological inversions, physical and signal-processing approaches are used to enhance the data to extract specific features. The global optimization approach is carried out on complex-valued vertical array data, transmi...

Joint inversion of ReMi dispersion curves and refraction travel times using particle swarm optimization algorithm

Shear-wave velocity ( ) is an important parameter used for site characterization in geotechnical engineering. However, dispersion curve inversion is challenging for most inversion methods due to its high non-linearity and mix-determined trait. In order to overcome these problems, in this study, a joint inversion strategy is proposed based on the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. The ...

Parameter estimation using multifrequency range-dependent acoustic data in shallow water

The estimation of all forward model parameters—geometric, geoacoustic, and ocean sound speed— by the inversion of acoustic field observations is considered. The data was taken at a mildly range-dependent shallow water site in the Mediterranean Sea. The inversion is based on data from a vertical array and carried out using information at multiple frequencies. Global optimization using a directed...

A Markov Chain Monte Carlo Approach for Geoacoustic Inversion and Source Localization

Gibbs Sampling, a Markov Chain Monte Carlo technique, has been shown to be a powerful tool for geoacoustic inversion and source localization. By providing estimates of posterior joint distributions, it offers a global optimization route for multi-dimensional matched-field processing that reports uncertainty and covariance in addition to point estimates. In this work, Gibbs Sampling is applied t...
